Asthma, Inhalers and AeroChamber

I guess most parents with asthmatic kids would know what Aerochamber is. 

I pun baru tau tahu tentang penggunaan Aero Chamber lepas Adik was subcribe with inhaler. Budak kecik tu dah seminggu batuk and whezing. Ubat antibiotik, kahak and ubat batuk dah habis pun still tak baik-baik. 

In fact malam-malam bila dia tidur, I can hear her wheezing.

So kebetulan semalam I jumpa doctor panel my office. Si kecik ni nak ikut masuk sekali. Bila doktor tanya kenapa dia tak sekolah, I explainlah yang dia dapat 3 hari MC sebab tak sihat.

Then doktor nak dengar chest dia. Fine with me-lahkan.

Doktor kata she still wheeze and her chest masih lagi ketat.

So doctor subcribe Adik

a ventolin and alvesco for her asthma. It seems that ventolin alone cannot control the asthma. So she has to use ventolin every 4 hours and alvesco once a day.

Beside that doctor also suggested that I buy the aero chamber for Adik supaya senang nak monitor whether she inhale betul atau tidak.

Tanya kat pharmacy, they are selling the chamber for RM120 tapi klinik panel I charge only RM95 for the chamber. So I terus setujulah ambik sebab cheaper than pharmacy.

This is how the chamber looks like. Senang jer nak guna.
Attachkan inhaler tu pada hujung chamber then kekan inhaler sekali.
Lepas tu suruh anak inhale 6 kali.
Atas chamber tu ada macam kipas kecik/flap so kita 6 kali tu bergerak.
Guna aerochamber ni senang sikit budak nak guna inhaler dengan more effective dan betul. Kalau puff terus dari inhaler takut derang tak sedut betul.

Below is a simple explanation that I got from the internet on how to use the aerochamber. 

How To Use An Aerochamber

Shake the inhaler 4-5 times.
Remove the cap on the inhaler (and the AeroChamber with mouthpiece).
Insert the inhaler into the back of the AeroChamber (make sure the inhaler canister is pointing up).
For the AeroChamber with mouthpiece:
- Place the mouthpiece of the AeroChamber in your child’s mouth.
For the AeroChamber with mask:
- Hold the mask snuggly over your child’s mouth and nose creating a seal
(no leaks between mask and skin).

Press down on the inhaler so that 1 puff of medication is released (never use more than one spray at a time).
For the AeroChamber with mouthpiece:
- Have your child breathe in slowly and deeply
(no whistling sound should be heard) to fill the lungs as much as possible.
For the AeroChamber with mask:
- Keep holding the mask over the child’s face for 5-10 breaths
(it’s OK if the child cries).
Repeat steps 1-6 for each puff of medication recommended.
When completed, remove the inhaler from the AeroChamber and replace the protective caps. 

Mintak-mintak sihat baliklah anak ni sebab risau dengar tiap-tiap hari dia batuk dan wheezing. Thank you Ahkakbatik for suggesting swimming class untuk Adik. Maybe we will consider enrolling Adik into a swimming class. Berenangkan boleh menguatkan paru-paru and open up her lungs. Silap-silap mak pun sama enroll nanti =)
